Why not? LED’s are the revolutionary new technology taking the globe by storm. With all this talk of climate change and carbon emissions, almost everyone is looking to do their bit to slow it down. Compact fluorescents and “energy saving” lamps are ‘cutting the mustard’ in the market… but what are the comparisons?
Fluorescents contain gases, they emit UV rays, and they create a lot of heat which doesn’t just affect the room temperature – but airconditioning as well. More wasted energy consumption. They use almost 80% more electricity than the LED tube replacement and they need to be changed a lot more routinely. Because fluorescents use gas, the light depreciation occurs quite quickly as the gas runs out. They take a while to heat up and fully light up, and they attract insects with their UV emissions, as well as having a potential effect on humans also.
LED tubes contain a cluster of Light Emitting Diodes. They don’t require a ballast or starter, or any other parts that would contribute to maintenance. When retrofitting you just disconnect the ballast and starter, put the LED tube in and away they go. No need to wait for the light to come to full capacity, as soon as you flick that switch you have instant light. Whiter, cleaner, crisper light. They don’t emit UV and therefore are good for your health and keep the insects away. They use 80% less energy and run for a time of 50,000 hours +. Less maintenance, less electricity and far more environmentally friendly.
